Sr. Public Relations Specialist
Looking for a Sr. Public Relations Specialist that has extensive/solid experience in;
· Media Relations in the Automotive Industry
· Executive Coaching
Job Description:
· Work with Media Relations Director to develop a media/public relations plan for our automotive division in the U.S. and Canada that complements the corporate strategy.
· Track plan progress with written updates, provide media training/interview prep for interview subjects. Support media interviews with prep, interview support, and follow up.
· Proactively work with media to support their efforts in alignment with our strategy.
· Proactively work with customers to support in media- or public relations-related activities; develop our spokespeople.
· Track product- issue-related trends, write executive speeches, and create executive media briefing materials.
· Work with PR agency to write and edit press materials.
· Work with our global contacts as required, obtaining approvals of media materials.
· Serve as department interface with automotive contacts to develop relevant and timely media/public relations activities.
· Work with trade associations - attend and serve as media/public relations contact at trade shows and events.
· Serve as media spokesperson.
· Coach and counsel our executives on various media/public relations activities and issues.
· Share information/work product with internal communication team.
· Work with subject matter experts to identify relevant and creative news stories.
· Essential Functions:
· Demonstrate ability to understand the media, understand the relationship between customers and suppliers, with media in a professional and timely way.
· Ability to proactively pitch stories as well as respond to media within their deadlines.
· Problem-solve complex issues and topics.
· Work within a matrix organization.
· Multi-task, meet deadlines, build relationships with media, customers and trade associations.
· Bring creativity and fresh approaches to public/media relations while working within budgets and timelines.
Minimum:
· Degree in journalism, public relations or related discipline
· 8 years public relations and media relations experience, preferably automotive related
· Experience in media relations
· Demonstrated ability to work in corporate setting in a matrix organization
· Demonstrated ability to build relationships with media, customers, trade organizations, and with internal contacts globally to help promote a company’s product portfolio
· Ability to work successfully within a deadline-driven environment
· Have ability and strong interest to understand technical and complex issues
· Excellent ability to write and edit media relations and public relations-related materials
· Demonstrated ability to coach and counsel executives in media- and public relations-related activities
· Ability to effectively present ideas verbally and in writing.
· High energy, team player who thrives on setting goals and meeting/exceeding them
· Attentive to detail
· Ability to travel to various events/activities -- approximately 20 - 25 percent
